Official Fire Information

The Gold Complex was discovered July 22 after lightning passed through the area and is made up of two fires - Mill and Smith.

The Mill Fire was three separate fires that burned together east of Whitehawk and south of Gold Mountain.

The Smith Fire is north of Highway 70 near south of Smith Peak.

These fires were managed by California Complex Interagency Incident Management Team 10 under a full-suppression strategy from Wednesday, July 24 through Tuesday, August 7.  A local Type 3 Team officially took command of the fire at 0600 on Wednesday, August 7.

Significant Events

California Complex Interagency Incident Management Team 10 (CCIIMT) took command of the Gold Complex (Smith and Mill Fires) at 0600 on July 24, 2024.

Fire behavior is minimal with expected cooler overnight conditions. Smoldering, and creeping. Crews are doing quality mop-up to lessen the threat of a possible escape. Warming and drying trend for the next couple of days.

Fuel moistures are at seasonal norms with ERCs in the 97th percentile. Heavy duff layer present with numerous snags in area. Fuel moistures at seasonal norms.

Planned Actions

Planned actions for the next operational periods are to continue with fire suppression repair and mop-up procedures on all Divisions.

Active line improvement, patrol and continued mop-up.
