The fire is burning in the upper end of Grouse Creek off the Pioneer Scenic Byway on the Wisdom Ranger District. Firefighting resources responded to the fire, and three helicopters assisted with water bucket drops during the initial attack phase. Fire retardant from air tankers is not effective in these fuel and landscape conditions. Crews disengaged during the afternoon hours of July 26 due to active fire behavior and the lack of safety and/or landing zones for helicopters. Firefighters will assess the situation on the ground, scouting for opportunities to access the fire and create safe anchor points for firefighting operations. Ensuring firefighter safety and protecting life and property are of the utmost importance.
Working in cooperation with our interagency partners and local community officials, fire managers will be meeting to identify and prioritize critical values at risk. Additional resources have been ordered. As they arrive, fire managers and agency officials will collaborate to utilize resources to protect the prioritized values.

Crews on the southeast flank of the fire will be in mop up and patrol status. On the southern edge near Pettengill Creek and Reservoir Creek, crews will hold and secure established control lines along the fire perimeter and monitor fire behavior. Along the Pioneer Scenic Byway, crews expect to complete the shaded fuel break. The structure group will continue surveys and documentation. Resources assigned to the Grouse Fire will assume responsibility for new starts within the footprint of the Grouse Fire Temporary Flight Restriction. |

Fire growth potential will begin to increase due to dry and warming weather conditions. Any growth will be continued backing and flanking on the southern end of the fire towards Pattengill Creek and Reservoir Creek.

| Weather Concerns | A break in the active weather pattern was observed on Sunday with thunderstorms staying to the north of the fire. The lowest humidity readings in the past several days were observed on the fire as drier air moved into the area. A 30% chance of thunderstorms will return to the forecast on Monday as the atmosphere remains fairly unstable and a little moisture works its way back into the area ahead of an approaching low pressure system. More thunderstorms chances will continue through the week.
