The Drissom Fire started on the afternoon of May 7th, and was extremely active with the column visible from Abilene. Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) arrive on scene around 20:00 and is working in unified command with several local responders. TAMFS dozer crews are working to put in fire line with several rural structure threatened in the area. Extremely high temperatures coupled with dry fuels have contributed to the extreme fire behavior.
