Containment lines were constructed with heavy equipment and burn out operations were conducted to remove unburned fuel between the containment lines and the fire edge. The Chico Lane Fire in Reagan and Irion Counties is growing rapidly and heading towards the town of Barnhart. Hwy 67 will be severely impacted by smoke and fire. Any travelers in the area should use extreme caution due to heavy smoke and responders on the highway working to contain the fire. Citizens and travelers should pay close attention to local news and law enforcement agencies for road closures and possible evacuation orders.
