Publication Type: News -
Highlights: The Type 3 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team, under Incident Commander Josh Bransford, assumed command of the Middle Tanana Complex on Monday, July 18, at 8:00 am.
Operations: Sunday, minimal fire behavior was observed across the Middle Tanana Complex. A reconnaissance flight located smoke on the Yukon Creek Fire and on the southeast end of the South Fork Fire. This fire activity is within the fire perimeter and does not pose a threat at this time. This fire activity will be monitored and action taken if necessary.
Firefighters will patrol and monitor Monday for activity along Shaw Creek Road to prevent impacts to the power line and Pogo Mine. Structure protection is ongoing for Salcha River and Goodpaster River areas. Crews have completed structure protection and have tested hose lays, pumps and sprinklers. As work is completed, crews will stage at the Incident Command Post (ICP) located in Delta Junction and assist with initial attack on new starts in the surrounding area. Should fire behavior increase, firefighters will be inserted back into fire areas to activate pumps and ensure they function properly.
As objectives are met and fire activity decreases, resources will be released from the Middle Tanana Complex and made available to assist with other fires across the state. Aircraft is available to assist with reconnaissance, equipment and crew transports.
The Porcupine, Gilles, Marshall Mountain, and California Creek fires remain in monitor status.
