CURRENT SITUATION:

Crews were busy yesterday improving lines around the fire ahead of the cold front expected late Friday through Sunday. Short-range spotting from rollout and torching continues to be problematic and the upcoming storm has the potential of creating spot fires as much as a mile out. Hand and dozer lines from Carter Meadow to Sugar Hill were completed and are mostly tied in. South of Callahan, near the McKeene Divide, there were small pockets of heat up against the dozer and hand lines and hand crews continued to work on improving the lines to the south of town. A dozer and a hot shot crew were used below Craggy Peak on an old roadbed in the wilderness area to begin work on a line to keep the upcoming storm from impacting Highway 3. Small amounts of new growth were detected in the area of a spot fire near Tangle Blue Lake and it was worked with aircraft. The fire has backed into Minnehaha Creek above Eagle Creek and retardant was dropped across the dozer lines by Minnehaha. Crews were mopping up along the lines in areas south of Coffee Creek to the Boulder Creek Trailhead. Both the area of Cecilville and the Cronan Fire will remain on patrol status through the at least the duration of the upcoming storm.
