River Complex Fire update 08.11.2021
River Complex 2021
Publication Type: News -
The potential for extreme fire behavior is expected to continue increasing this week as temperatures rise and dry thunderstorms move into Northern California. Extremely dry fuels, with hot, dry, windy weather and steep topography are aligned with the head of the Haypress and Summer fires.
A virtual public meeting will be held at 5:00 pm this evening using Facebook Live on the Klamath National Forest Facebook page. An operations update, fire behavior, weather, smoke, closure and evacuation information will be provided by California Interagency Incident Management Team 14, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, and the Klamath National Forest. Questions can be posted before or during the meeting to be answered by officials.
Yesterday: Night operations monitored and patrolled in key areas where fires were backing toward Summerville and along the South Fork of the Salmon River. The wildland fire module assigned to Coffee Creek continued assessing structures in that area.
Today:
- Contain fire to south side of the Cecilville/Callahan Road on the north side of Haypress Fire.
- Contain the slop-over on north side of Cronan Fire and tie the line back into 51 Road.
- Continue direct and indirect line on north side of the Summer Fire to keep fire from progressing into the Summerville area. Continue readiness for structure defense in Summerville area on the Haypress and Summer Fires.
- All fires are planned for full suppression.
Fire Behavior: Smoke continues to impact the region, particularly in the steeper drainages and complex terrain. Until the inversion and smoke lifts, low to moderate fire behavior is observed. As conditions warm and as the predicted dry thunderstorms move through, fire behavior is expected to increase.
Weather: Hot, dry, and unstable weather continues over the fire area this week. Where smoke lingers, maximum heating potential is limited. Overnight relative humidity recoveries have been poor, increasing the potential for extreme fire behavior. A monsoonal moisture influx will bring elevated potential for dry thunderstorms Thursday into Friday.
