River Complex Fire Update Friday, October 1, 2021

River Complex 2021
Publication Type: News -

Etna, CA- The River Complex has seen zero perimeter growth over the last two operational periods with diminishing heat signatures each day. The weather is forecasted to continue its warming and drying trend through Monday. Certain areas of the fire are expected to see temperatures in the low 90's with humidity less than 15% during this time period. These conditions will cause an increase of smoke production in the normal areas that were holding the most heat prior to the last rain event such as above Minnehaha Creek and near Sugar Pine Lake. Crews continue to bring water to these hot spots with hose lays where it is possible to do so. Helicopters will be directed for water drops on the heat near the control lines where it is too remote to use hose lays.
Firefighters are assisted by a fixed wing airplane that flies over the fire each night with infared technology to detect hotspots and estimate perimeter growth. This data is interpreted by Geographic Information System (GIS) specialist who provides this information to firefighters on the ground to guide their containment efforts. An emphasis is being placed on suppression repair as the fire gains containment and confidence increases on a significant weather pattern change in the middle of next week that will bring an extended period of cool and wet conditions. The Cronan fire remains 100% contained. This will be the last day the Cronan fire is included in the daily update, unless significant fire activity occurs.
