River Complex Fire Update Thursday, September 30, 2021

Etna, CA- The current warming pattern is slowly drying the vegetation, bringing a gradual increase in activity across the fire throughout the rest of the week. Although there will be an increase in smoke production over the fire, most heat will be isolated to stump holes and dead surface fuels consuming within the interior of the perimeter. Crews continue to focus their efforts on containing the eastern portion of the fire. They have made great progress over the last several operational periods and completed direct handline from the Minnehaha Creek area towards Stoddard Meadow.

Multiple crews continue to utilize "coyote tactics" (self sufficient operations), sleeping near the fires edge to maximize their efficiency and reduce travel time to the fire line.  These crews are working to complete the handline from Stoddard Meadow to the Eagle Peak area. Helicopters are delivering critical supplies such as food, water, and saw fuel. Although the warming and drying trend will continue through the weekend, crews are confident that their current actions will keep the fire from making additional runs before the next next weather systems impacts the area late next week. The Cronan fire is 100% contained and is in patrol status.  Crews will continue to go direct on the Haypress Fire.
