Etna, CA- The recent rain combined with shortening day lengths, are keeping the burn window each day to a minimum. Today should be another day of low fire activity with fire behavior isolated to creeping/smoldering in the dead surface fuels. Given the position of the fire on the slope and the lack of any forecasted weather events, crews should be successful holding the existing control lines and continuing with direct line construction.
Crews continue to utilize "coyote tactics" (self-sufficient crews) to stay out along the fire line so they can maximize their production rates each day and minimize travel time to the fire line. Helicopters will provide both logistical support for the firefighters on the line and also will be utilized to extinguish any hot areas along the perimeter which may not be able to be accessed by ground resources due to steep and rugged terrain. The Cronan fire is 100% contained and is in patrol status. Crews will continue to go direct on the Haypress Fire.
