River Complex Fire Update October 11, 2021 Smoke activity increases and fire suppression repair continues Recent changes in the weather have brought colder temperatures and increased winds in the River Complex Fire area. The increased wind has led to an increase in smoke activity from hot spots, as wind and moisture increase into the middle of the week.   Firefighters are positioned in strategic locations around the footprint of the fire, monitoring activity and seizing opportunities to take direct suppression actions. Smoke plumes noticeably increased along the Eastern flank of the fire yesterday as the wind picked up ahead of the approaching cold front. All of the fire activity remains within the fire boundaries, but fire managers are closely monitoring the increased activity and are sending suppression resources in as needed. Ground crews at Minnehaha Creek are directly engaging the fire wherever the steep and rugged terrain allows. Three Type 1 helicopters have been ordered and the existing Type 1 helicopter is continuing water bucket missions in Sugar Pine Butte area. Resources are also continuing to rehabilitate controlled areas and repair unneeded contingency lines.
