CURRENT SITUATION:

Light winds and decreased fire behavior were experienced over most of the incident yesterday, as smoke from the Monument and McCash Fires continued to shade the sun. As we move further away from the last wetting rain, fire-growth potential has increased and will continue to do so ahead of the cold front expected late Friday through Sunday. The decreased fire activity yesterday allowed crews to improve lines in and around the priority areas of Callahan and the Eagle Creek Loop. Crews in the Callahan area completed small firing operations to connect various lines south and east of town. Reduced smoke along the eastern flank of the fire near Minnehaha Creek resulted in some increased fire activity including more growth on the spot fires east of Eagle Peak. Growth in this area was limited, however, as clearer skies allowed the use of air assets. Construction of contingency dozer lines east and north of Highway 3 continued. Lighter winds are expected today, short-range spotting from rollout and torching will continue to be problematic. Some small spot fires were observed southwest of the Boulder Creek Trailhead, but these were near existing lines and crews were able to quickly construct handlines around these and deploy hoselines. No fire growth was observed on the southeastern flank of the fire and all crews have now been removed. Only one apparatus remains patrolling the Cronan Fire.
