CURRENT SITUATION:
Although winds were light, increased fire activity was noted in the north and southeastern areas of the River Complex due to continued lower relative humidity. This increased fire behavior was especially visible south of Blue Jay Ridge to Sugar Hill where spot fires started to flank and back towards the main fire. Crews were able, due to the reduced winds, to engage in direct attack, actively connecting fire line using the old burn scar from the Fox Fire to Sugar Hill. Smoke lifting on the eastern flank of the fire generated increased fire activity, but also allowed for the increased use of air assets including all helicopters assigned to the incident. This increased use of air assets allowed significant amounts of retardant and water to be dropped and better mapping of the specific heat sources within the fire perimeter. It is anticipated that smoke will settle over the fire beginning in the early afternoon and will result in slower fire growth but also reduced ability to utilize air resources.
Fire crews are securing and strengthening Coffee Creek fire line by mopping up and extinguishing hot spots and removing snags into the fire interior. The Cronan Fire, northeast of Cecilville, on the River Complex has not grown in several days and Cecilville camp will be closing and resources will be reallocated to other areas of the fire.
