River Complex Daily Update September 18, 2021

CURRENT SITUATION:

Southwest winds arrived as forecasted and tested lines yesterday and last night, but the fire saw only limited growth. An incoming cold front, including rainfall is expected to arrive by mid-day today. The Cronan and Cecilville areas remain in patrol status. The Carter Meadow to Sugar Hill area has containment lines in place with crews remaining in the area improving lines. South of Callahan, dozers and crews continue to improve containment lines. The fire near Craggy Peak remained active yesterday and last night as it responded to the southwest winds and warm temperatures. Aircraft were utilized around Craggy Peak until smoke conditions impacted visibility and aircraft were redirected to other areas of the fire. Crews remained in place and continued ground operations after the aircraft departed. The Tango Blue Lake spot fire was worked heavily with aircraft and only slow growth was observed. Aircraft, including fixed wing and helicopters, conducted air operations and dropped retardant in the areas of Eagle Creek and Minnehaha Creek. Specialized tenders equipped with retardant were also utilized to bolster containment lines. Crews continued to mop-up near Coffee Creek where areas of heat not previously visible were observed as the afternoon winds developed. A new one-acre spot fire developed yesterday in the Little Boulder Lake area, just outside the hand line. Crews were in place and quickly formed a containment line around the spot fire.

CLOSURES: The state-wide Forest Service closure has been lifted. Some Forests remain closed, check with your local Forest Service unit to see if closures remain in effect.
