Cerro Pelado Fire Update for Thursday, May 26

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR 
There will be warmer weather over the fire area today with sunny skies in the morning. There is zero percent chance of precipitation, and the maximum temperature will reach into the low 80’s.  Relative humidity will be in the low teens. Southwest winds are forecast. Fire behavior continues to be minimal across the fire area.  

FIRE OPERATIONS  
On the northwest side of the fire outside of the Jemez Falls area, crews will be continuing to mop up further into the interior of the fires’ edge. 
 
On the south side of the fire, crews and heavy equipment operators will continue doing suppression repair. All chipping of the trees and brush has been completed.  The northeast and southeast quadrants of the fire are looking good. All suppression repair work is complete and resources in these areas will continue to patrol the fires edge.     

The Bandelier National Monument remains closed. The website shows plans of opening to the public soon. Please see their website for current information - www.nps.gov/band/index.htm  

BAER INFORMATION 
The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has established a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team to begin the assessment of National Forest System (NFS) lands impacted by the Cerro Pelado Fire. CREWS/EQUIPMENT Eleven type II hand crews, 17 engines, 1 bulldozer, 10 water tenders, 4 ambulances, 2 helicopters.
