Due to active wildfires on Heppner Ranger District, compounded by extremely unfavorable weather conditions, limited firefighting resources and concern for public safety, forest officials on the Umatilla National Forest are Temporarily closing the Heppner Ranger District. The objective of the temporary closure is to proactively protect public and firefighter safety as multiple Incident Management Teams continue to actively suppress large wildfires on the Heppner Ranger District.
This closure means that the public is prohibited from entering lands, roads, trails, and recreational facilities on the Heppner Ranger District. Access on county, state or federal roadways will not be affected by this order. Additional information about the Umatilla National Forest is available at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/umatilla

Heppner Fire Closure Order
Pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 8 331 and3 0C F R 8 201.30 (a) and (o), the following prohibitions are establishedwithin the Hepper Ranger District on the Umatilla National Forestwithin the areadescribed below and shown on Exhibit A. This order becomes effective on July 21, 2024, and will remain in effect until December 31, 2024, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS
1. Entering into or being upon an area closed for the protection ofpublic health and safety. 36 CFR g261.53(e).
2. Being on a National ForestSystem Road. 36 CFR § 261.54(e).
3. Being in a National Forest System Trail. 36CFR § 261.55(a)
BONEYARD AND LONE ROCK FIRE CLOSURE AREA
The area within the following boundary:
Starting at the Proclaimed Boundary of Hepper Ranger District where it meets withRanger District Boundary between NFJD and HepperRanger Districts in 1. 6 S., R. 29 E., Section 32 follow the Ranger District Boundary North until you meet the Proclaimed Boundary of Hepper Ranger District turn west following the Proclaimed Boundary arounduntil you reach the starting point at the Proclaimed Boundary of Heppner Ranger District where it meets with Ranger District Boundary between NFJD and Heppner Ranger Districts ni .T6S., R. 29 E., Section 32. All Boundary lands, roads and trails will be closed.
EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
(1) Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting them from this order.
(2) Any Federal, State, orlocal Officer or member of an organized rescue orfire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
(3) Forest Service employees performing official duties.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000f o ra n organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 U.s.C. 8551; 18 U.s.C. 8 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581).
