Last night resources worked to mop up the eastern edge of the fire around many structures. Moving carefully through the area they put out as many of the hotspots as they could find to reduce the risk to the homes inside the perimeter of the fire. Additionally, a handcrew was able to conduct a burn operation safely to remove unburned fuels along the southwest section of the fire and better secure that edge. Last night there was an Infrared flight that came over and mapped the perimeter of the fire to assist crews today as they work to construct line. Today, firefighters will be working to secure the perimeter of the fire, trying to hold it in place during the expected hot and dry conditions. Around the northern edge of the fire there will be 10 dozers working to construct containment line and access for engines to move completely around the perimeter. As this line is constructed engines will be searching for hot areas and putting these out to help secure the boundary. This work will take a significant amount of time and residents can expect to see smoke rising. Along 1148 there will be lots of engines mopping up the edge of the burn and protecting structures. This includes working around structures away from the fire edge in case the fire jumps containment lines and continues to grow. Night shifts will continue tonight with resources taking advantage of lower temperatures to get beneficial work done. Aerial resources are standing by to assist here and other fires across the state. Weather Today will feature a weather pattern very similar to yesterday’s weather. Temperatures are expected to reach 106 with humidity expected to drop below 20%. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for much of this area including the fire location. New starts in the area may occur and have the potential for rapid growth. Fire resources will be monitoring the local area in support of the local fire departments.
