Das Goat Fire Update March 28, 2022 4:00pm
Size: 1,092 acres
Containment: 70%
Personnel: 45
The Das Goat Fire in Medina County ignited on March 25, 2022 under warm, dry and windy conditions. Critically dry grass and juniper vegetation supported ignition and growth of the fire with some spotting of flammable materials ahead of the flaming front.
Last night crews observed minimal fire activity and were able to continue to patrol and mop up along containment lines. The plan today is to complete a short section of needed containment line and to continue to improve, mop up and patrol. In addition, crews will be mitigating any existing threats near homes. A damage assessment team is on scene today. Fire managers are working with local officials and the power company to make a reentry plan for evacuees.
Weather:
Much needed moisture increased overnight with morning relative humidity (RH) in the upper 80s-near 90%. Light winds near 5 mph with gusts to 10 mph in the morning increases to 15-20 mph by midmorning and 12-15 mph with gusts to 20-25 mph this afternoon. Cloud cover decreased mid-day and RH should fall into the low to mid30s this afternoon. Overnight RH should again be near 90% and low clouds should develop. However, winds will not drop off tonight as much as the last few nights, lasting into the morning at 7-12mph.
