The Das Goat Fire in Medina County ignited on March 25, 2022 under warm, dry and windy conditions. Critically dry grass and juniper vegetation supported ignition and growth of the fire with some spotting of flammable materials ahead of the flaming front.
Today, there was very little fire activity around the perimeter. Fire resources patrolled the containment lines and continued to mop up around the active areas. Due to the critical fire conditions and wind advisories, crews will remain staffing this fire to ensure that current containment is held.

Due to the difficulty of the surrounding terrain, there is more work that needs to be done to call this fire completely contained. Firefighters will continue looking for any heat and smoke that shows around the perimeter. Engines will patrol tomorrow to assess the need for any further action to be taken tomorrow.

The fire is officially 100% contained as of April 2, 2022 and turned over to locals. Federal and state resources have been released.
 
Pending any significant change in fire activity this will be the last update for this fire.    
 
Weather:Near critical fire weather conditions are possible each day through Sunday.A light northeast wind at around 5 mph or less starts off the early morning with some shifts in direction possible through around 9 AM. Around 9 AM, northerly winds above the shallow inversion will mix down and make the presence of the dry cold front known. Winds will be relatively modest compared to the cold fronts from the past couple weeks, but there will still be a potential for early afternoon wind speeds of 10 to 15 mph and a gust or two over 20 mph. The air was not immediately dry out with the north winds, but eventually dried to where the RH is in the mid to upper 20s as good daytime heating occured despite the northerly wind directions. Light winds below 10 mph will return to gusty southerly winds and dry conditions making for favorable fire spread conditions Sunday.

Evacuations and Road Closures:No current evacuations in place. The mandatory evacuation for residents who live on County Road 2615 between County Road 265 to just south of Paradise Canyon was lifted as of March 29th. Further information can be found at Medina County Office of Emergency Management facebook page. Use the following the link to sign up for Emergency Notifications from Medina County agencies: http://r.i-info.com/rc/arc.

Damages and Injuries:The damage assessment team noted several homes that were directly saved through the actions of ground and aerial crews. The completed survey found 3 residences and 2 outbuildings lost, and 4 homes with minor damage.There has been no report of injuries at this time.
