Das Goat Fire Update March 29, 2022 8:30pm
Size: 1,092 acres
Containment: 95%
Personnel:
The Das Goat Fire in Medina County ignited on March 25, 2022 under warm, dry and windy conditions. Critically dry grass and juniper vegetation supported ignition and growth of the fire with some spotting of flammable materials ahead of the flaming front.
The plan for today included completing a short section of needed containment line and to continue to improve, mop up and patrol. In addition, crews would mitigate any existing threats near homes and fire managers would make a plan with local officials and the power company to allowed evacuees to return. Those goals were accomplished, with containment increasing to 95% and evacuees starting to return home at 9:00 am today. Some state resources were able to complete their missions for today and travel to new fire starts across the region.
Weather:
Minimum rH was higher today than recent days, though wind speeds and gusts increased through the afternoon. Winds should decrease tonight in advance of a pacific cold front. The front will be accompanied by a chance for a brief period of showers and potentially an isolated thunderstorm between 2-5am, though rain amounts will almost certainly be less than 0.10", but RH should increase into the upper 80s. By sunrise Wednesday winds will be out of the WNW and during the day breezy to windy conditions will develop. Critical fire weather conditions are expected to return as RH falls back near 20% in the afternoon.
Evacuations and Road Closures:
The fire became very active on March 26 around noon prompting evacuations throughout the area.
