Dempsey Fire Friday Afternoon Update 2
Dempsey Fire
Publication Type: News -
The Dempsey Fire is being transitioned from a type 4 to a type 3 incident, indicating an increase in size and complexity. The fire continues to show resistance to control with all flanks active except the heel of the fire. The head of the fire is pushing north, and has now jumped the Brazos River. A pre-evacuation alert has been issued for those in the vicinity of the fire, but no evacuation order at this time.
Additional aircraft including a large air tanker, a very large air tanker, and a lead plane have been ordered. Additional personnel and heavy equipment are en route.
Drought and weather conditions are contributing to the fire's resistance to control. Fire fighters will be experiencing 104 degree temperature, low humidity, and winds gusting to 20mph today.
