Cause: Under Investigation
Two Texas A&M Forest Service dozers and two Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) engines continued with mop-up operations and patrolling the perimeter last night. The right flank (east) of the fire where rough terrain is present was successfully tied in. Containment lines are now around the entire perimeter of the fire and forward progression has stopped.
The Nelson Creek Fire will be staffed this morning with 2 Texas A&M Forest Service D6 dozers and an engine strike team from Virginia. Resources will continue patrolling, mopping up and checking containment lines.
Weather:
Hot and dry conditions with wind speeds at 8 mph will continue today. Temperatures are expected to reach 105 with a relative humidity of 26%. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for much of this area including the fire location. Fire resources will be monitoring the local area in support of local fire departments.
Damages & Injuries:
There is no structure loss on the fire currently. Two firefighter related injuries were reported on the evening of July 18th. One VFD firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment. A second interagency firefighter received a minor injury and was also treated.
