Nunn Fire
Size: estimated 400 acres
Containment: 20%
Cause: Under Investigation
Fire crews worked late into the evening to get a good size up of the fire, put a plan together for fire suppression, and began to implement their plan. The fire grew overnight and entered a drainage area, increasing the complexity of this fire. They have returned this morning and requested more aviation resources to assist with fire suppression. Engine and aviation resources will be utilized on this fire due to rugged terrain. In addition to the engine and aviation resources already on scene, a type 1 Handcrew Module has been ordered to provide additional ground support. Air tanker retardant drops have been effective in conjunction with engines working to put out hot spots.
Crews are working to contain this fire before predicted wind shifts and critical weather arrive.
Fire Weather: RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 1 PM CDT WEDNESDAY. Recovery will be poor this morning, with relative humidity going critical most of the day as dry southwest 20-ft winds increase. 20-ft winds will shift to west during the late afternoon, and remain elevated tonight. Despite this, recovery overnight will be moderate. Windy/gusty 20-ft west winds will continue Wednesday, but cooler temperatures will yield relative humidity above critical criteria.
