The West Nueces Fire began on March 27, 2022 in Kinney County. Local fire departments requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) late afternoon as the fire was actively burning in grass and juniper shrub. TAMFS is working in unified command with Kinney County. The fire is burning approximately 19 miles northeast of Brackettville, Texas.
Operational tactics today focused on taking direct action along the fire edge where possible and creating contingency lines on the southeast corner. Aviation resources have not yet been able to fly over the fire today due to the high winds. There is still active fire within the perimeter of the fire, though no growth has been seen since yesterday afternoon.
Weather:
The fire experienced northwest winds 20-25 mph with gusts up to 40 through this afternoon. Winds should lower to 15-20 mph with gusts to 30mph through early this evening. Winds will then shift to the north at around 10mph after 8pm. Very low RH was seen this afternoon, and is expected to rise to around 40% at midnight.
