The Lake Fire is split into a North and South Zone as the fire expands in acreage and personnel. The fire remains under Unified Command with California Complex Incident Management Team 13, CAL FIRE, Santa Barbara County Fire, and Santa Barbara County Sheriff, with two fire camps to support firefighting efforts.

North Zone Fire Activity: On the north portion of the fire perimeter, the fire continues to slowly back down to the Sisquoc River. Due to increased humidity, fire behavior today will be subdued, allowing crews to work closer to the fire edge. The fire continues to be more active in the Davey Brown area, Ranger Peak and Goat Rock areas. The fire is moving as planned to the established control lines, with crews focusing on any spot fires escaping those lines. Ground crews continue to work with various aircraft as needed to assist with suppression tactics.

South Zone Fire Activity: Firefighters continue to make good progress mopping up hot spots and strengthening control lines on the Lake Fire. Firefighters have conducted firing operations to create a buffer zone in areas of the fire, and they continue to strengthen control lines, identifying and extinguishing any remaining hot spots within the fire perimeter. Today, crews continue to actively fight fire while working on strengthening containment and control lines.

Forecast for Saturday: A 10-20% chance of mainly dry thunderstorms through the day capable of producing lightning strikes along with gusty outflow winds. Vista Fire Morning Update 07 13 2024

Related Incident: Vista Fire
Publication Type: News

INCIDENT MORNING UPDATE

Date: 7-13-2024 Time: 9:00 am

Size: 2887 acres                                      Start Date & Time: 7-7-24 9:51 am

Containment: 31%                                   Cause: Under Investigation

Total Personnel: 724                               Location: Southside of Lytle Creek

Structures Threatened: 416                    Unified Command Agencies: California Incident Management Team 15, San Bernardino County Fire Dept.

Last night firefighters on the Vista Fire had a reprieve due to the cooling weather and were able to make solid progress along the northern flank. Fire crews held the southern and eastern flanks throughout the night with minimal interior heat. Containment increased to 31%.

“We’ve had some good luck with the weather during these last few shifts, but it’s important to recognize that fire behavior is dynamic. We have resources available and are prepared to respond to any new initial attack fires”, said Travis Ederer, Strategic Operations Section Chief.

The Forest Service has an area closure in effect for the Vista Fire on the San Bernardino and the Angeles National Forest. Several roads, campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads, and dispersed recreation areas are closed to the public to provide for firefighter, community and public safety. Recreation activities are prohibited within the closure area. More information about the closure order is available on the national forest websites at https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/sbnf/alerts-noticesand https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices.

Today, there is a 20-25 percent chance of thunderstorms and southerly wind gusts up to 20-30 MPH. This weather, with potential for erratic winds and dry lightning, will present challenges on the fire and test containment lines. Given the weather concerns, firefighters will take a measured approach to engaging the fire.

On the eastern flank, fire crews will continue securing the line and mopping up. Fire crews will establish handlines on the southern flank and look for opportunities to tie into existing containment lines. Aircraft resources are available however wind shear (i.e. sudden changes in wind speed or direction) may limit opportunities for support.

Silver King Fire Daily Update July 12 2024 07 12 2024

Related Incident: Silver King Fire
Publication Type: News

**COMMUNITY MEETING SATURDAY JULY 13**

Yesterday, gusty and erratic winds from local storm cells caused numerous spot fires along all containment lines that were caught early after they ignited. Firefighters performed firing operations across a large portion of the eastern perimeter to meet the main part of the fire. This involved cutting away vegetation to make a line of bare soil ahead of a fire, and then burn in vegetation between that line and the actively burning fire front. Crews deployed hoselines to hold that perimeter and began mopping up. This success has lead to Fire Operations declaring portions of that line into the containment category.

Crews secured handlines and dozer lines from the 113 Road to Sargent Mountain to prevent northern and western fire progression and reduce impacts to private property and the historic Silver King Mine area. Crews will shift towards line construction on the northern part of the fire. Firefighters made entry into the Miners Park and found two structures had burned, along with the Bully Boy Mill.

The Incident Meteorologist (IMET) predicts increasing moisture into the weekend, however atmospheric instability could bring lightning and erratic winds. Gusts up to 30 miles per hour are possible today and can push the fire in any direction. Higher relative humidity overnight gives a better chance of overnight moisture recovery, making fuels less receptive to burning in the early part of the day.  The IMET indicated a 3% chance of rain up to ¼” on Saturday. Smoke is continuing to impact surrounding communities, but with prevailing winds changing to the South, the communities of Richfield and Salina may be impacted.

The Fishlake National Forest has issued a closure order that can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/fishlake/alerts-notices.  The Castle Rock Campground remains open.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on the Fishlake National Forest are beginning Friday, July 12, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. Stage 1 restrictions limit where fires are allowed and what type of fires visitors can have in those places. For additional information on fire restrictions and wildfires in the state of Utah, visit www.utahfireinfo.gov or follow X (formerly known as Twitter) @UtahWildfire.

There will be a community meeting on Saturday, July 13, at the Latter Day Saints Church in Marysvale at 6 p.m.

Saturday July 13, 2024

Type 3 Incident Management Organization

Pat Seekins, Incident Commander

Location: Three miles northwest of Beulah, CO

Date Reported: June 22, 2024

Cause: Lightning

Size: 1,310 acres

Containment: 89%

Total Personnel: 80

On Friday, chipping operations progressed towards the east end of the fire and will continue over the next few days. Firefighters also started mechanical work with heavy equipment on the west side of the fire. The purpose of utilizing this type of equipment is for suppression repair to return the affected area to as much of a pre-existing condition as possible.

Ground support also organized equipment in the fire area to prepare for a sling operation which will occur this morning. Sling loading is when helicopters transport packaged equipment used in the firefighting efforts to a designated area, which will be transported back to a fire storage facility.

Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drones recorded video footage from burnt areas. This data will be used to aid a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team, which is arriving on Monday. A BAER team addresses post wildfire stabilization and other issues that may arise from a wildfire. The team focuses on public safety as well as ways to protect the landscape.

Sunday night, the Oak Ridge Fire will be transitioning to a Type 4 Incident Management Organization. This will be comprised of a Type 4 Incident Commander and various area resources. The Oak Ridge Fire information board located at the Beulah Post Office parking lot will be removed Sunday morning. The last daily update will be Sunday morning.

Weather & Smoke Information: Today we will see mostly clear skies with a slight chance of early afternoon showers. Those showers could produce winds up to 30 mph. Temperatures will rise to near 90 at lower elevations of the fire and continue through the weekend with critical daytime relative humidity between 10% and 15%.

**RED FLAG WARNING ISSUED FOR HIGH WINDS STARTING AT NOON**

Yesterday, a storm cell centered over the southeastern area of the fire. Winds up to 45 m.p.h. were experienced, with directions changing nine times, causing an approximately 800 acre slopover.  Crews gathered, along with heavy equipment, and were able to get a line around it that evening. At least one lightning strike was recorded in the Bullion Canyon area.  Air operations were temporarily shut down during the high winds, but resumed later in the day. Power was again turned off in Bullion Canyon, however there were no power interruptions for customers in the surrounding area and to the south. The northeastern corner of the fire has been mopped and new containment is anticipated soon.

Crews will continue line construction on the northern part of the fire, prepping for future firing operations. Hoselays are being placed to aid in the anticipated mopup that will be needed in the coming days.  Scouting for firelines continues in the western perimeter of the fire in an effort to keep the fire from going over the ridgelines to the west.

The Incident Meteorologist (IMET) has predicted increasing moisture into the weekend. With the anticipated moist conditions are possible dry lightning and particularly erratic winds that prompted the NOAA Weather service to issue a Red Flag Warning. Conditions experienced on Friday are expected again, but prevailing winds are still coming from the South, pushing smoke into Richfield and Salina. Smoke conditions are likely to increase to unhealthy levels. New fire starts are possible with the dry lightning. The IMET predicts some showers may occur, but may be isolated.

The Fishlake National Forest has issued a closure order that can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/fishlake/alerts-notices.  The Castle Rock Campground remains open.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on the Fishlake National Forest began on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. and limits where fires are allowed and what type of fires visitors can have in those places. For additional information on fire restrictions and wildfires in the state of Utah, visit www.utahfireinfo.gov or follow X (formerly known as Twitter) @UtahWildfire.

Larch Creek Fire Evening Update 07 13 2024

Related Incident: Larch Creek Fire
Publication Type: News

Larch Creek Fire Crews Make Progress Under Favorable Conditions Today

Dufur, Ore. – Crews took advantage of calmer winds and additional resources today to make progress on the Larch Creek Fire. Air resources supported crews on the ground with helicopters, single engine air tankers, and scoopers. On the north side, firefighters reinforced line, and efforts on the east side allowed Highway 216 to reopen. Challenges remained on the southwest portion of the fire, where crews are working to build line across steep terrain and canyons.

Tomorrow, firefighters will prioritize building and strengthening line in the southwest area, and engage in direct attack where possible. Structural task forces will continue tactical patrols. Cooler temperatures, particularly overnight, should aid these efforts. Crews will seek to gain as much ground as possible before an anticipated weather shift could bring an increase in gusty winds. Additional resources continue to arrive and fire camp has expanded at the Tygh Valley Rodeo Grounds.

Fire managers on the Larch Creek Fire will host a public meeting tomorrow at 7:00 pm at South County High School in Maupin. This will offer community members the opportunity to hear more about fire conditions and planned operations. Spanish language interpretation will be available. This meeting is in-person with no virtual option.

The Wasco County Sherriff’s office expanded Level 2 BE SET evacuation levels in some areas today as a precaution. To keep up to date on evacuation levels, visit:

Basin Fire Update 07 13 2024

Related Incident: Basin Fire
Publication Type: News

PEOPLE AND EQUIPMENT:  329 personnel, 4 crews, 6 engines, 2 helicopters, 6 dozers and 9 water tenders

CURRENT SITUATION: The Basin Fire is 14,023 acres, with no increase in acreage. Containment remains at 95%. High heat in this long duration heat wave continues. The hot and dry heat over an extended period has made the fuels more receptive, this may produce visible smoke in unburned areas of the fire within control lines; no new fire growth is expected. Temperatures today are expected to reach 103 degrees in lower elevations of the fire line and should begin to gradually decrease into next week. The National Weather Service – Hanford issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect through the weekend with the chance of thunderstorms and dry lightning.

Firefighters will continue to monitor and patrol the fire lines and backhaul any equipment that is no longer needed.  More resources have been released to assist with other wildfires throughout California.

Northern perimeter:  Firefighters continue to improve hand lines in an effort to remove available fuel and increase containment. Unburned areas within the fire’s western perimeter may produce smoke. Aircraft will assist firefighters in monitoring the fire line and will use water drops if necessary.

Suppression Repair:  Suppression repair efforts continue in areas of the fire that are no longer posing a threat. Crews are taking advantage of existing roads, rivers, and barriers to limit fire. Due to very dry fuels, firefighters have not been able to use dozers due to the risk of a spot fire starting. Hand tools will be used in these areas to return them to as natural a state as practical, until the use of mechanical equipment can be re-introduced.

An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect through Sunday morning, with high day time and night time temperatures. Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 103 degrees today, with relative humidity 18% to 44%. Winds are forecast to remain low, from the west at 6 to 10 mph, with gusts to 22 mph. These figures will change with predicted thunderstorms.

The Basin Fire started on June 26, 2024, and the cause is currently under investigation.  The fire is at 2000-4500 feet elevation, northeast of Pine Flat Lake, west of the Spanish Mountain, south of Black Rock Rd (11S012) and north of the South Fork of the Kings River.

Fire updates are posted on Inciweb:  https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/casnf-basin-fire.

Fresno County EVACUATION ZONES:  The recent evacuation warnings in Fresno County, for the Basin Fire, have been rescinded.

FOREST CLOSURE and FIRE RESTRICTIONS for the Basin Fire: To ensure the safety of the public and our firefighters, The Sierra National Forest has issued a Temporary Partial Forest Closure Order No. 05-15-52-24-15 for the Basin Fire area. Effective July 5, 2024, the closure will remain in effect until July 31, 2024. We urge the public to respect all closure signs and barriers and to avoid the area to prevent any potential accidents or interference with firefighting efforts.
