The Boneyard Fire was started by lightning at 3:42 p.m. on July 17, 2024. The fire is burning in extremely dry fuels comprised of grass, brush, juniper, and ponderosa pine north of the town of Monument.

Extreme fire behavior continues to be observed. The fire is torching timber and causing spotting issues.
The fire is making fast runs fueled by winds in the lighter fuel loads.

Planned Actions

*Scout for and identify potential line location options.
*Identify resource needs to construct line as identified.

*Construct and hold line, going as direct as possible.
*Assist structure protection resources to protect and secure structures as necessary.
*Work jointly with Divisions to do structure triage and point protection.
*Conduct burnout operations if conditions allow, to remove unburned fuels adjacent to containment line.
*Support burnout operations as necessary.
*Patrol residential areas.

Projected Incident Activity

12 hours: Extreme fire behavior and rapid rates of spread to the SOUTH. Long and short range spotting.
Surrounding terrain and fuels are conducive for rapid spread. ERCs are nearing record-high
levels as well as fuel moistures nearing extreme lows

24 hours: Fire growth will continue to expand to the SOUTH and will encroach the town of MONUMENT.
The MONKEY CREEK FIRE to the NORTHEAST is slowly encroaching the BONEYARD FIRE.
Concerns of fires merging is a future concern. Fire behavior continues to be EXTREME

48 hours: As the fire encroaches the town of MONUMENT resources will be dedicated to structure
protection within the town. Fires in the vicinity are causing other potential issues such as
spotting

72 hours: Incoming COLD FRONT will likely cause further containment issues as we expect to see gusty,
and erratic winds. The fire will continue to exhibit EXTREME BEHAVIOR with EXTREME
POTENTIAL

Remarks

The COURT ROCK FIRE has been included under ODF TEAM 1 Delegation of Authority. The fire is
approximately 5,000 acres and continues to move rapidly to the SOUTH. Resources are currently
engaged on the incident.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

Today will be hotter than yesterday with continued low humidity. Cumulus clouds will build during the day, and showers and thunderstorms developing over south central Oregon will track northeast in the fire zone OR644 in the mid-afternoon. There is high confidence in showers and thunderstorms east of HWY395, a 40% chance of a few storms over Battle Mountain Complex, and a 30% chance over Boneyard. Some storms will bring brief heavy rain, occasional lightning, and gusty outflow winds. Storms will end Wednesday night, and Thursday will be cooler with higher humidity.
