The Red Fire is burning on the Deschutes National Forest, within the steep terrain of the Diamond Peak Wilderness. The fire is located northwest of Crescent Lake near Red Mountain, and is currently 585 acres. The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy. Public and firefighter safety is the highest priority in managing the fire.

The Southern Area Gray Incident Management, led by Mitch Ketron, Incident Commander IC3  Fulton Jeansonne IC3, has assumed the management of the Red Fire.

Narrative:
The Red fire will stay on the forest floor as the majority of fire fuels are there. The fuels are mainly all the dead and down 1hour to 1000 hours fuels that are dry because the seasonal drying minimal recovery from the slight rise in humidity.

Significant Events

Minimal
Creeping
Single Tree Torching
Smoldering

Narrative:
The potential burning in the Red fire has some possibility to continue and is slowly increasing as some moisture and continued cooler temperatures move out, but the potential for some moderate burning can occur within areas in part of fire that continue to have poor fuel moisture recovery. The southern part of the fire currently has the most activity

Outlook
Planned Actions

Continue to implement fuel breaks with hand crews and mixed mechanical methods. Draft structure protection plan and implement some structure protection infrastructure. Continue shaded fuel breaks, and any needed actions to keep fire in the wilderness.

Projected Incident Activity

12 hours: As the cloudy skies continue to clear in the fire area that slight moisture change in the fuel beds with the higher Relative Humidity. Relative Humidity is the main factor as it is always changing slowly with the predicted weather. Burning will be could be moderate slow on most of the fire area.
24 hours: As the weather cycle to lower temperatures and slow rising relative humidity. Conditions will still allow burning.
48 hours: The weather conditions continue slowly move downward as temperatures lower along with rising relative humidity. Smoldering continues in the fire area as the slow rise in relative humidity, but unburned fuels can sill be consumed if they do not receive any type of moisture.
72 hours: As temperatures continue to slowly lower, and relative humidity are rising. Smoldering will again start in areas of unburned fuels in the dry fuels and duff layer. Perhaps longer more defensive fire ops around residential areas.
Anticipated after 72 hours: Smoldering will continue in unburned dry fuels within the fire area as the minimal burning conditions are slowing with the return of moisture.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

Partially cloudy with some more moderate temperatures for the season and continue light winds. Winds were out variable then became more westerly 5 to 7 in the afternoon.

Wet and gusty conditions are expected Sunday and Monday as a system passes through the southwest flow aloft. 4 to 7 tenths of precipitation is possible over the course of the 48 hour period. Visibilities will resin hindered through the period.

Looking for a brief period of weak ridging aloft mid-week next week, leading to slightly warmer temperatures, decreasing chances of rainfall, and breaks in the cloud deck
