Fire burning in pines along trail during the Hilux Fire, Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida
Hilux Fire Public Map April 8. This will be the current map until fire behavior increases.
Local U.S. Wildland Fire Service personnel began suppression efforts immediately after discovery of the Hilux Fire on the afternoon of April 3, using a combination of direct extinguishment and indirect confinement strategies. Persistent afternoon showers over the past several days have limited spread potential, however predicted hot, dry and windy conditions will likely cause fuels to dry out and fire behavior to increase over the coming days.

| Significant Events | Fire behavior has moderated in the last few operational periods, potential for increased fire behavior in teh next coming days. Fuels are readily ignitable. |
| Planned Actions |
Continue to improve primary and secondary containment lines, monitor current fire behavior through wind/precipitation events. |
|---|---|
| Projected Incident Activity |
12 hours: Primary containment lines continue to be improved. Fire activity has moderated and the incident will start demobing a few resources that are determined as excess. 24 hours: Fire activity has moderated and the incident will start demobing a few resources that are determined as excess. 48 hours. Transition to a type 4 organization 72 hours: Monitor by ground and air as needed |
| Remarks |
Local Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the fire on 04/04/2026 at 0600. Support from Florida Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife Service continues to be an asset to developing and improving containment lines. Resources will be held through precipitation events and containment lines and tactics will be reassessed as warmer and drier conditions persist. Terrain and fuels make access to fire edge difficult. |
| Weather Concerns | After another morning of very good humidity recovery, another warm and dry day is in store. HIgh pressure strengthening off the eastern seaboard will lead to stronger winds this afternoon, with max sustained winds of 10-13 mph and gusts between 20-25 mph. Highs in the middle 80s with afternoon humidity falling into the 40s is once again expected. There may be a brief period around peak heating where humidity briefly drops into the 30s. Dispersion indices will again be very high, reaching or exceeding 100 around peak heating this afternoon. |
