PEOPLE AND EQUIPMENT: 1,305 personnel, 32 crews, 71 engines, 14 helicopters, and 16 dozers.
CURRENT SITUATION: The Basin Fire is at 14,020 acres. Containment is 46%. The heat wave continues to impact the fire by drying vegetation and producing heat stress challenges for fire personnel. With fire activity reduced, a few resources are beginning to be released, are shifting to suppression repair, or held in reserve to respond to any new fire activity. Ground resources and two helicopters were released last night to the Lake Fire in the Los Padres National Forest.
• Eastern perimeter: The eastern side of the fire continues to remain within the constructed lines, however rollout of burning material may still occur. This area is being monitored by aircraft and firefighters in the area.
• Southern perimeter: Containment line has been secured along the South Fork of the Kings River and the area is being monitored. Crews are working on suppression repair and backhauling trash.
• Western perimeter: Crews have boxed in the fire with a combination of dozer line and retardant. Firefighters continue to patrol and increase the depth of containment lines.
• Northern perimeter: Crews succeeded in constructing a helicopter landing area west of the Dinkey Creek drainage despite steep, rugged terrain. This major accomplishment is enabling firefighters to build fire line in an area that was previously inaccessible. Crews were flown in yesterday and are working on fire-line construction.
• Contingency Lines: North of the fire perimeter, along the PG&E lines and vicinity, work is continuing on contingency fire lines using crews, dozers, masticators, and feller-bunchers, to block the fire if it starts moving north.
SHAVER LAKE FIREWORKS: Today is the Shaver Lake fireworks show. If you are visiting - or an area resident - you will have lots of company! Thousands of people are expected at the lake this evening and drive times will be very long on Highway 168 on the way to Shaver Lake. It may take up to 3 hours to leave the Forest after the show. Plan for a slow drive home and have plenty of water along in your car.
Please support our firefighters by respecting the Sierra National Forest closure area. Keep in mind that no fireworks are permitted on federal land and that the vegetation is very dry. Stay hydrated and enjoy your weekend!
An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING through next week continues to affect the fire with high temperatures, drying vegetation, and little relief at night. Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 108 today and relative humidity remains low. Winds are forecast to remain low, from the west at 8-12 mph and gusts to 15. The National Weather Service has reported that “A heat wave this intense, this long, has not been experienced in this region in 20 years.” Cooling stations have been set up at the fire command post and on the fire line to help reduce the cumulative effects of heat stress on firefighters.
The Basin Fire started on June 26, 2024, and the cause is currently under investigation. Currently, the fire is at 2000-4500 elevation, northeast of Pine Flat Lake, west of the Spanish Mountain, south of Black Rock Rd (11S012) and north of the South Fork of the Kings River.

Wet weather continues today as Idaho Team 1 IMT 3 prepares to take command of McDonald Fire 07 06 2024
Related Incident: McDonald Fire
Publication Type: News
Size: 172,236
Personnel: 80
Start Date: June 8, 2024
Cause: Lightning
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Overnight the weather stations in the area of the McDonald Fire received a half inch of rain. This, along with the precipitation and cool temperatures on Friday, moderated fire behavior and there was minimal perimeter growth.
Today, Idaho Team 1 IMT 3 will shadow the BLM Alaska Fire Service Type 3 organization to prepare to take over the fire on Sunday. This allows the incoming team to get a feel for all the good work that has been completed by the previous team and ensures there is a smooth transition as firefighters continue to secure and protect the values at risk.
In the 5 Mile Creek Area, crews will continue with mop-up operations to secure the fire’s edge. Firefighters will also continue to monitor fire behavior for any potential spotting or flanking beyond the perimeter. Lookouts are being staffed by a wildland fire module to provide information to crews on the ground. With the wind and rain in the forecast again today, operations will be weather and safety dependent.
Weather: Wet and windy conditions continue through the weekend. There is a high chance of wetting rains today as a front moves across the area. This will likely slow fire growth, although smoldering is expected to continue under the canopy and in areas that receive less precipitation. Temperatures are forecast to be in the 50s to 60s.
Burn Permits: The Division of Forestry and Fire Protection has lifted the Burn Permit Suspensions for Fairbanks, Salcha, Delta, Tok, and Railbelt areas. Small and Large Scale Permits are required. Burning is allowed today. The fire danger in these areas is MODERATE. Please check https://dnr.alaska.gov/burn/fireareas or call the burn permit hotline for the Fairbanks Area Forestry at (907) 451-2631 for the most current updates.
Air Quality: The cool, wet weather significantly moderated fire behavior and smoke production on Friday. There is still some lingering smoke Saturday in the Tanana River Valley. It will be a bit drier and windier, but the overall pattern will stay cool and wet through the weekend and into next week. With the decrease in smoke, the air quality is expected to remain GOOD. Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (1650 Cowles St.) has clean-air rooms available for people impacted by smoke open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Find information on how to protect yourself from wildfire smoke at the Smoke Management page on https://akfireinfo.com/smoke-management/.
Evacuation Notices: A Level 2: SET evacuation notice is in effect for the approximately 20 cabins near the fire’s southeastern edge west of the Tanana River. The communities east of the Tanana River are in READY status, including the Johnson Road neighborhoods, Canaday, Harding Lake, Salcha, the lower Salcha River, Hollies Acres, and south to Birch Lake. Find more information and an interactive map of these areas on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Emergency Services website.
Temporary Flight Restriction: The temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been adjusted based on public input to give float plane access to Harding Lake. Be aware helicopter operations to support the fire still continue in the area. Visit tfr.faa.gov for more information.

Pioneer Fire Update 07 06 2024
Related Incident: Pioneer
Publication Type: News
The Pioneer Fire is burning in the Chelan Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and on private land 31 miles northwest of Chelan. The communities of Stehekin, Chelan, and Manson are open and continue to welcome visitors. Fire managers are using a full-suppression strategy to protect private property, public infrastructure, and natural and recreation resources, while minimizing risks to responders and the public. Part of the rationale for a full-suppression strategy is that the origin of the fire was on private land, and it is suspected to have been human caused. Additionally, while much of the fire area is within wilderness, if the fire were to spread significantly, it could affect population centers.
High temperatures and low relative humidity increased fire behavior yesterday on the north side of the fire near Meadow Creek and on the south side near Prince Creek. On the south flank, fire made a run down-lake along Lake Chelan to Lone Fir Creek and upslope into drainages between Prince Creek and Lone Fir Creek. Ground crews continued using water systems already in place along the lakeshore to protect private structures and recreation resources in the area. Structure protection efforts have been successful, with no additional structures lost. Fire managers surged resources to the active south flank to respond to increasing fire behavior.
In other parts of the fire area, crews strengthened fire lines and point protections. Near Stehekin, they will lay more hose lines today, working up from Rainbow Falls. Firefighters will also continue improving the lines along Nelson Butte and Coyote Ridge down to the lake. Mastication continued along Gold Creek Road and along the divide east of Lake Chelan. Boats continued to deliver firefighters and equipment throughout the fire area. Today’s weather forecast has all the ingredients for more active fire behavior. Increased fire spread is likely where wind and terrain align. Firefighters will continue to use aircraft to drop water while ground crews build and strengthen fire lines and water systems. Firefighters will also continue securing structures along the lake shore both up lake and down lake, especially near Canoe Creek.
WEATHER: The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for well into next week and a red flag warning for Saturday. Today’s heat may break records in Stehekin and Chelan. Fire managers expect increased fire behavior and potential spread. Smoke is likely to travel over the Chelan area. Additional fires in the area, not associated with the Pioneer Fire, are also contributing to smoke. The air quality outlook is at https://bit.ly/PioneerFireSmoke. Learn more about smoke at smokeready.org. The fire marshal raised fire danger ratings and restrictions. See https://t.ly/WLBds for more information.
EVACUATIONS AND CLOSURES: Due to the increased fire behavior and spread, Chelan County increased evacuation levels. Please visit https://t.ly/QoH9w for more information. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has a closure order in place for much of the fire area. Details and maps are available at: https://bit.ly/PioneerClosure. Many recreation sites remain open and accessible.

Riley Fire Update, Saturday, July 6, 2024
388 acres, 25% contained, 196 personnel
The Riley Fire gains containment
HEALY, Alaska – The Riley Fire is now at 25% containment, encompassing the southeast edge and northernmost tip. Fire managers are confident that the fire will not cross the containment line, shown black on the map. Crews are working to extend the containment line by going further into the burned area and extinguishing heat.
Although the fire may not look very active, a deep layer of organic matter, or duff — roots, leaves, needles, and twigs — continues to smolder. The fire has burned in a mosaic pattern. Some areas are burned black, some trees are partially burned, and large areas within the fire perimeter remain unburned. The result is that a tree canopy remains, which can prevent rain from reaching the ground. The recent rain showers have helped with humidity and cooler temperatures, but vegetation, which is fuel, remains dry.
Weather: Showers on Thursday and Friday dropped about a quarter of an inch of rain on the fire. More rain is likely for Saturday and Sunday that could bring totals for the week near half an inch. Wind gusts on Friday measured in excess of 40 mph. Wind gusts on Saturday could be even stronger. Temperatures will remain cool through Sunday, with highs near 60°F and relative humidity above 40%. Warmer and drier weather is predicted to resume early next week.
Evacuations: Evacuation status has not changed. The Tri-Valley Community Center is the Evacuation Information Center. Go to the Denali Borough website for more information.
? Red – Go! All Bison Gulch and Antler Ridge hikers, Riley Creek Campground, and all employees housed at the Denali National Park Joint Venture facility, National Park Service Campus Housing, and Admin Camp: ANYONE IN RED AREAS SHOULD EVACUATE.
? Yellow – Set: There are currently no locations in “set.”
? Green – Ready: The Nenana Canyon area (aka Glitter Gulch), Denali National Park Headquarters, C-Camp. Anyone in GREEN areas should stay alert and monitor for evacuation status updates.
Park Closures: All visitor facilities and park operations in Denali’s entrance area are closed. Future dates will be assessed based on fire activity. The park will remain closed to personal vehicles and day use visitors until further notice. Employees evacuated from park housing are being sheltered in various facilities in the nearby town of Healy. Park officials continue to work closely with the Alaska Complex Incident Management Team, Denali Borough, and other partners to ensure everyone is taken care of. Go to the Denali National Park and Preserve website for closure information.
Road conditions: The Parks Highway remains open. Go to https://511.alaska.gov/ for road condition updates.

Informacin Actual del Incendio Oak Ridge 07 06 2024
Related Incident: Oak Ridge Fire
Publication Type: News
Oak Ridge Fire Update 07 06 2024
Related Incident: Oak Ridge Fire
Publication Type: News
Yesterday evening at approximately 5:00 p.m., firefighters began to implement the strategic firing operation planned on the southeastern corner of the fire (Div. K). Firefighters began by using drip torches to fire and widen an existing containment line. The goal of this plan is to help contain the fire in an area that has been difficult to access and allow firefighters to safely and effectively work and protect values at risk. Today, firefighters plan to use aerial ignition dropped from unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The UAS will drop plastic spheres that ignite approximately 30 seconds once they hit the ground. This operation will expand the burned fuels from the fire to the widened containment line. This strategy allows fire managers to have the fire in their control to best protect Beulah. If this firing operation proceeds today, there will be additional smoke in the area.
Outside of Div. K, much of the operation for the rest of the fire will be strengthening and improving containment lines. Much of the work being done today will be chipping brush near these lines. Firefighters use chainsaws to remove lower tree limbs and brushy shrubs and then chip this vegetation. The wood chips are then dispersed into the surrounding area, not left in piles. The reduction of flammable vegetation close to the ground will strengthen containment lines.
The strategic firing operation in Div. K is anticipated to take one to two more days. After this plan is implemented, it is anticipated that backhaul of equipment off of the lines and suppression repair to the lines will ramp up. Today’s map looks different with additional containment line on the fire shown in Div. As additional containment and resource changes are anticipated on the fire, the map will continue to have additional changes.
Weather & Smoke Information: Light winds today will switch from the North to the East today and peak at 5-10 mph with gusts to 18 mph. It will be a warm dry day with temperatures reaching 91 in Beulah today and relative humidity levels down to 13%.
