KEY MESSAGEHeavy equipment is continuing to work on cleaning up residual fuels from indirect line on Moccasin Ridge using the closed roads to access the line. Yesterday, Miller Peak Fire resources were able to assist Lolo National Forest fire personnel in containing a new fire that started east of the fire. The new fire was 20 feet by 20 feet and was quickly contained and controlled. Even with recent precipitation, fuels are still available for new starts.CURRENT STATUS

KEY MESSAGEHeavy equipment is working on cleaning up residual fuels from indirect line on Moccasin Ridge. The trees were initially removed to create a fire break to stop fire progression during the first few days of the initial attack.CURRENT STATUS

KEY MESSAGEYesterday there was an uptick in fire activity located in the interior of the fire due to the rising temperatures and wind drying the fuels. A helicopter was brought in to drop buckets of water onto the affected area. The eastern edge of the fire is still spotty with unburned and burned fuels.CURRENT STATUS

KEY MESSAGEThe burned and unburned fuels creating the mosaic pattern near the fire’s edge creates unique complexities when managing the fire. The heat left smoldering in portions of the fire pose a risk of igniting the unburned fuels within the already burned area and spreading to fuels outside containment lines.CURRENT STATUS

KEY MESSAGELingering heat continues to remain in heavy and unburned fuels such as downed trees and stumps. The containment of the fire remains at 65% while crews worked to ensure residual heat stays within containment lines.

Lower temperatures and precipitation decreased activity of the fire, but some heat remains in heavy fuels such as downed trees and stumps.  CURRENT STATUS 

KEY MESSAGENorthern Rockies Team 9 assumed control of the fire at 0600 this morning. The fire remains at 65% containment as crews continue to mop up and strengthen containment lines around the perimeter of the fire. Today a low-pressure system will be over the area bringing cooler temperatures with widespread rain across the fire area.

KEY MESSAGEThe containment of the fire increased to 65%. Low relative humidity and gusty west winds today will result in near critical fire weather conditions. Cooler temperatures through the night and morning have allowed for crews to effectively mop-up, bolstering containment lines. Incident Commander Shane Martin and Northern Rockies Team 9, Type 3 Incident Management Team, will take control of the incident tomorrow at 0600. Current Status

KEY MESSAGEThe containment of the fire remains at 55%. Yesterday, cooler temperatures through the night and morning have allowed for crews to effectively mop-up, bolstering containment lines. A Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) has arrived to take over from current IMT, the new team will take control of the incident at 0600 on Tuesday.
