Preparing road for a containment line on the southern portion of the Lone Rock Fire
A firefighter removes fuel around a utility pole in an effort to protect valuable infrastructure on the Lone Rock Fire 2024
Fire activity increased Thursday afternoon into the night. The Lone Rock Fire moved to the south approximately 3 miles according to NW Team 2 Operations Section Chief Dan Trapanese update at morning briefing. OSFM Ops Chief Steve Chapman gives detailed information about the structure protection in place around the fire.
Ever wonder what "mop up" entails? Our fire crews set up a pump and hose system to serve multiple firefighters simultaneously. A crew member carefully uses their ungloved hand to detect any remaining burning embers. Then, using a hand tool, they mix water into the hot coals to extinguish them.
This is the Operations Section Chief video update for July 18th. Steve Chapman from Oregon State Fire Marshal's Red Team speaks about structure protection and the progress being made. Amy McClave from Northwest Team 2 provides an "around the map" briefing on the suppression and mop up activities both last night and for today's shift. As a reminder, we have firefighters working both day and night to protect houses, outbuildings and to limit the fire spread wherever and whenever possible. The night shift resources recover and sleep during the day, and they typically stay on the night shift schedule for the duration of their 14 day assignments. The public may see night resources parked, staged or resting as they prepare for their next shift. Please always drive carefully when fire vehicles are in the area. We appreciate the interest and support. #lonerockfire
