Pioneer Fire Update 06 30 2024
Related Incident: Pioneer
Publication Type: News
The Pioneer Fire is burning in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness Area on the Chelan Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and on private land 31 miles northwest of Chelan. The communities of Stehekin, Chelan, and Manson are open and continue to welcome visitors, with limited smoke and fire activity. With increased traffic over the holiday week, please take extra caution around heavy equipment and drive slowly.
Pioneer Fire managers are using a full suppression firefighting strategy to protect private property, public infrastructure, and natural and recreation resources, while minimizing risks to responders and the public. Due to extreme terrain, they are using indirect attack, creating control lines away from the fire’s edge, and point zone protection, which includes setting up pumps, hoses, and sprinklersto safeguard structures.
Yesterday, fire managers used an unmanned aircraft aerial system (UAS) to assess the fire for future strategic suppression opportunities. In Stehekin, crews implemented the structure protection plan by constructing new handline and plumbing it from Boulder Creek north to Rainbow Creek to minimize fire impacts. Today, firefighters and aerial resources will continue working to cool hotspots as they are identified and accessible.
A public meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin, Wash. This meeting will not have a virtual option.
WEATHER: Expect cooler temperatures with down-lake winds gusting up to 30 mph and a slight chance of rain. The air quality outlook is at https://bit.ly/PioneerFireSmoke. Learn more about smoke at smokeready.org.
SAFETY: Recreational boaters are asked to maintain a safe distance from helicopters dipping into Lake Chelan for water collection. Always check current fire restrictions and never leave a campfire unattended.
EVACUATIONS: Evacuation levels have been downgraded as of June 28. Visit https://t.ly/QoH9w for the most up-to-date information.
CLOSURES: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest issued closures in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness and surrounding areas. Details, including maps, are available at: https://bit.ly/PioneerClosure

Oak Ridge Fire Daily Update 06 30 2024
Related Incident: Oak Ridge Fire
Publication Type: News
Rain that fell over the fire area last night measured at one to two tenths of an inch. This amount of precipitation was not enough to extinguish large, downed debris and heavy vegetation. This cooled the surface fuels and slow fire activity in the same manner when helicopters drop water over hot spots. This will allow firefighters to focus on their efforts implementing strategic tactics including constructing indirect fire lines to suppress the fire in areas where terrain, fuels, and conditions affecting safety of firefighters are more favorable.
Firefighters are making great progress on indirect fire lines and planning for future tactics. This will involve strategic burnout
operations to bring the fire to indirect lines as conditions allow. This gives firefighters the ability to fight the fire strategically on our terms rather than try to fight the fire on its terms.
Current Situation
Firefighters will work on constructing indirect handline in Division Alpha starting at an access point west of Panther Creek and work their way south toward the east fire perimeter. Dozers will construct a line near the same point in Division Alpha and work their way north and northwest toward the Junkins Burn Scar.
Firefighters will focus on indirect fire lines on the Second Mace Trail. Other crews will work west of the filtration plant to
Soldier Mountain. This will open access closer to the Second Mace Trail for transporting supplies and providing a quicker
emergency response route.
Crews will begin working on indirect lines from Fairview Meadows pushing toward Division Kilo on the Second Mace Trail.
The structure group will complete their work in Beulah Highlands this morning. From there they will move on to the Squirrel
Creek and North Creek areas to assess and triage structures.
Firefighters will focus on secondary lines beyond our indirect lines in Squirrel Creek by opening and prepping some of the
roads in that area. This will lessen the future workload if the fire threatens to move beyond our indirect lines.
Weather & Smoke Information: Rain fell on the fire area overnight and will continue off and on this morning. There’s a
potential for afternoon thunderstorms with east to southeast winds and gusts up to 60 mph.
The U.S. Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program is now producing a daily smoke outlook report specific to
south central Colorado and the Oak Ridge Fire. You can read and download the outlook by going to
https://outlooks.airfire.org/outlook/d9fa3c77.
Closures: The Middle Creek Road is closed. The San Carlos Ranger District of the Pike and San Isabel National Forests issued
an area, trail and road closure effective June 26, 2024. Go to www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/psicc/alerts-notices to read and download the entire order.
Evacuations: Homes along the Middle Creek Canyon Road are under a mandatory evacuation. The following are in a preevacuation status: Vine Mesa, Cascade Ave., Pine Ave., and Beulah Highlands Rd. Go to www.puebloemergency.info for all
evacuation information.
Temporary Flight Restrictions: There is a 24-hour Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire area. If you FLY, we
CAN’T. Do not fly or operate your own drones in this area, as it will impede firefighting efforts and ground our aircraft.

Update Boulder View Fire 06 30 2024
Related Incident: Boulder View Fire
Publication Type: News
Highlights: Areas in GO evacuate status were downgraded to SET while areas in SET status were returned to READY status on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. Containment increased on the east side of the fire after it reached the Wildcat Fire burned area and stopped spreading. The Central West Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the Boulder View Fire that is under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management and the Tonto National Forest.
Summary: The Boulder View Fire was active along the south and southeast side of the fire throughout the day on Saturday. Firefighters made progress on the north end of the fire that spread across Bartlett Dam Road, reinforcing the fireline. The western perimeter of the fire largely follows the north-south Powerline Road and crews made improvements to that road for use as a fireline. The eastern side of the fire burned into the Wildcat Fire burn area and halted, leading to containment along that side. Fire crews are working to suppress the southwest corner of the fire area utilizing engines and UTVs. Airtankers and helicopters were used along the south edge of the fire to improve a two-track road for use as a holding feature, while firefighters continued to improve firelines and began mopping up remaining hot spots. Ground resources aggressively attacked heat in thick vegetation in the Camp Creek drainage on the southeast side of the fire. This area continues to be the most active area on the fire.
Today, fire crews will focus on improving firelines and continue structure protection efforts. Crews will especially focus on the southeast part of the fire due to residences at risk and prevailing winds as fire crews on the south and west sides of the fire will improve firelines and begin mop up.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect across the entire Tonto. For more information, visit https://wildlandfire.az.gov/
Bartlett Lake recreation areas are inaccessible due to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office closing Bartlett Dam Road at Cave Creek Road. There is no entry for recreation currently. To get the most up-to-date information and news about the Tonto, follow them on X @TontoForest and Facebook @TontoNationalForest.
Weather: High temperatures will reach 105 degrees with calm winds throughout the day, with chances of thunderstorms in the evening. Thunderstorms can make firefighting efforts more complicated due to gusty winds and lightning strikes.
Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the highest priority. Please avoid the area while crews conduct fire suppression operations. The public is urged to sign up for the Maricopa County Emergency Notification System. The system allows you to be quickly notified of emergency evacuations. To learn more about the Arizona Emergency Information Network visit: https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go. Firefighting aircraft and drones are a dangerous combination. INCIWEB UPDATE
SOUTH FORK AND SALT BAER ASSESSMENTS
JUNE 29, 2024
The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) assessment team is warning the public to steer clear of flooding and ash-laden flows from the South Fork Fire, which are raising water to dangerous levels on the Rio Ruidoso in Upper Canyon. The South Fork Fire burn area covers 24,266 acres: 58% on tribal lands, 24% on national forest, and 18% on private lands. The Forest Service BAER recreation specialist completed field surveys of nearly all recreation sites potentially at risk. The BAER Wildlife specialist identified critical habitat at risk for the endangered Mexican Spotted Owl.
On the smaller Salt Fire, which is 99.7% on tribal lands, BAER specialists have now assessed all structures within drainages to be able to design point protection. Tomorrow, they will be doing the same assessment for 6.25 miles of roads in the affected watershed. Department of Interior (DOI) BAER and Tribal specialists worked together in the field to identify natural seed sources and begin planning reforestation needs on steep burned slopes in Turkey, Bear Creek, Snow and Fence Canyons.
BAER SAFETY MESSAGE: Everyone near and downstream from the burned areas should remain alert and stay updated on weather conditions that may result in heavy rains and increased water runoff. Flash flooding may occur quickly during heavy rain events--be prepared to act. Current weather and emergency notifications can be found at the National Weather Service website: www.weather.gov/abq/.
