Firefighters will continue to seek out and extinguish hot spots within the perimeter of the Lake Fire today. Most of the heat has been located in islands of unburned vegetation. Fire crews have been busy extinguishing these hot spots with support from helicopters. Fire behavior within these islands may increase later this week as temperatures rise and vegetation dries out.
Firefighters have begun the task back hauling equipment used to protect structures in the area away from the immediate perimeter of the burn. Besides removing hose lines and pump systems around structures, the fire resistant wrap used to protect the historic Manzana Schoolhouse and Dabney Cabin will be removed.
Contingency lines were constructed ahead of the fire as a precautionary measure in the event the fire escaped primary control lines. Firefighters are constructing water bars and taking other measures along these lines to reduce the potential of erosion during the winter rains.
Forecast for Monday: Persistent warmer and drier conditions continue with highs in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees mid-week. An excessive heat warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
Donations: We appreciate the outpouring of support from the community. We ask that donations or volunteer efforts be directed to local food banks to assist the community. Lake Fire Incident Command posts cannot accept donations.
Lake Fire Area Closure: Some roads and trails within the Los Padres National Forest are closed. Refer to the Closure Order & Closure Order Map by using links or visiting the Los Padres National Forest website. This closure will remain in effect until August 18, 2024, or until revised or rescinded.
Smoke: The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) have lifted the Air Quality Alert in the Santa Ynez Valley. The Air Quality Watch will remain in place countywide, and air quality conditions are forecasted to be good to moderate throughout the county.

LONE ROCK FIRE UPDATE July 22, 2024

Condon, Oregon — The Lone Rock Fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy by the unified command of the Northwest (NW) Team 2 and Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Red Team.
Yesterday’s Activities: An upper-level weather system moved over the fire late yesterday morning bringing high based showers and isolated thunderstorms. Cloud cover and smoke from area fires kept temperatures down with afternoon temperatures generally in the upper 80s. As a result of cooler temperatures and increased cloud cover, firefighters had an advantage in securing portions on the south end of the Lone Rock Fire. Crews were able to directly engage the fire on the eastern edge of the fire from Brown Cabin Spring towards Forest Service Road (FSR) 21. Crews working south of FSR 21 worked along the edge of the fire from FSR 21 to the south using a combination of direct and indirect fireline construction. In the southwestern portion of the fire, firefighters were working in coordination with the Rangeland Fire Protection Association (RFPA) to construct indirect line with the possibility of initiating firing operations, as conditions allow, from HWY 19 north to existing containment line in the northern portion of the fire.
Task forces continued their focus on protecting structures on the southern edge of the fire, working from a new forward operating base established in Spray, Ore. Additional resources were also positioned north of the town working with hotshot crews on strategic firing operations to establish a line east of Notch Road, allowing crews to anchor down to HWY 19.
The existing 40 percent containment around the Lone Rock Fire remains secure. Crews continue to patrol the entire northern portion of the fire and the community of Lonerock, Ore.
There was a new lightning-caused wildfire detected within the incident management team’s response area late yesterday. Firefighters responded to the new start and were able to contain the single tree lighting strike fire.
Working north from HWY 207 near Alder Creek, firefighters may have opportunities to complete firing operations along indirect lines towards the existing containment area on the west side of the Lone Rock Fire.
The 12 structural task forces assigned to the Lone Rock Fire will continue to their mission of point protection around structures, providing critical community protection.
Today’s Activities: Crews plan to secure indirect line with firing operations. These types of burning operations are strategically planned to consume fuels in a controlled manner, making fuels unavailable to a growing wildfire. Preparations for these operations have been made on the east side of the fire near Forest Road 21 and near the junction of Alder Creek Road and Highway 19.
Firefighters will be working directly on the fire edge from existing containment near Burton Hill south all the way to the Umatilla National Forest Boundary at FSR 21. From FSR 21 to the south, crews will continue to work directly
along the fire edge to improve containment features all the way to the west of Spray, Ore.

Publication Type: News
Smoke Outlook Eastern Oregon 7/22 and 7/23
Special Statement
A Heat Advisory will continue to be in effect as temperatures are expected to be at or above 100 degrees. An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for Harney and Malheur Counties until this afternoon.
Fire
There are multiple fires effecting the forecast area. The Falls Fire is currently 132,951 acres and is 16% contained. The Lone Rock Fire is 116,563 acres and is 40% contained. The Durkee Fire is 143,220 acres and the Battle Mountain Complex is 6,408 acres. Hot, dry conditions will continue to result in active fire and continued smoke production.
Smoke
Smoke from multiple fires will continue to impact the area. Yesterday, thunderstorms occurred and produced gusty winds that had a significant impact on air quality. Similar conditions are possible today. In the evening, a wind shift is expected, with winds turning to the west-northwest. This will bring more smoke towards areas east and southeast of the fires, with Burns expected to have VERY UNHEALTHY air quality, and John Day and Baker City expected to have UNHEALTHY conditions. Air quality in La Grande and Ontario is expected to be UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS. Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, as fires remain active and hot and dry conditions continue.
Blacktail Canyon Fire Morning Update 07 22 2024
Related Incident: Blacktail Canyon
Publication Type: News
Incident Commander J. Willoughby
Location: southeast of Butte, MT between Interstate 90 and Highway 2
Start Date: 7/19/2024
Cause: Undetermined
Size: estimated at 68 acres
Resources on Site: 3 engines, 1 helicopter, 3 type 1 “hotshot” hand crews, 4 type 2 hand crews
Total Personnel Assigned: 159
KEY MESSAGES:
The Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department has issued an evacuation warning for Blacktail Canyon Road southeast of Homestake Road, Homestake Road east of Blacktail Canyon Road and Passmore Canyon. This warning means residents should be prepared to evacuate but are not yet under an evacuation order.
CURRENT STATUS/PLANNED ACTIONS:
The fire stayed within its current footprint again yesterday.
Three “hotshot” crews began construction of direct fireline (immediately adjacent to the fire’s edge) by removing fuels and mitigating “snag” hazards, starting at the southwest corner of the fire in the Beaver Pond Meadows area and progressing northerly along both flanks or sides of the fire. Additional crews assisted with fireline construction by mid-day, bringing the total number of crews to five. These crews will “spike out” or camp near the fire to decrease travel time back and forth, maximizing efficiency and increasing firefighter safety. Helicopters will supply the firefighters with food and water through aerial delivery of “sling loads” attached to the bottom of the helicopter with a lead line and swivel.
The interior of the fire continues to burn in large amounts of dead and down lodgepole pine trees, posing additional hazards and affecting on-the-ground progress. Ensuring firefighter safety and protecting life and property are of the utmost importance during any incident.
Working in cooperation with the Butte-Silver Bow officials, fire managers have identified and prioritized critical values at risk, focusing available resources and current efforts on the protection of the private structures in the Blacktail Canyon, Homestake Road and Passmore Canyon areas. (Local Fire Department engines have provided structure assessments.)
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Fire behavior was moderate yesterday, with single tree torching, smoldering, and creeping observed, despite the hot and dry conditions. Smoke from the fire may be visible from numerous areas around Butte. East/northeast winds will continue today, with an increased chance of thunderstorms and associated gusty, erratic winds. Hot and dry conditions continue through Wednesday, with isolated thunderstorms. Increased winds and showers enter the area, as the ridge of high pressure breaks down on Thursday.
